The salmons of porn

The big fishes of the so called porn industry have gathered online to discuss their plans to fight P2P torrents, claiming that it infriges their business with a massive 4% loss. TorrentFreak reports.. and discusses a reaction that smells like rotten seafood.

Prospering from every new multimedia technology for more than three decades, the porn business turned itself into an industry. But, just like the music business, it came up to a point where it can’t imagine the next model for selling it’s stuff. And it turns agressively to it’s consumers who share free copies, convincing itself that they are the problem.

As mentionned by TorrentFreak, fighting distributed networks is an endless war. Plus wasting 4% or 5% on advertising and addiction-creating operations is a common fact of most other industries. But moving from a massive poor-quality production to a new generation of products with a decent price / quality ratio, streamlined distribution channels takes more than money and will and guts. It takes imagination. But you can’t read and fuck at the same time. These big salmons fighting against the torrent are stucked with their limited « material » – holes and nipples and balls and dicks – and a regressive vision of their consumers. Their marketing usually goes like this : « this shit sells ? Let’s do it again… only cheaper ». There are way too many resellers on this market and they are usually better in marketing and sales than the big salmons they are working with.

In fact, it looks more like a dope gang than an industry to me. This is positive because it means that the whole sales department can be easily modified according to new concepts. Some old fishes may be canned during the next transformation process but be prepared : the torrent will not kill the porn.

Actually, we may enter a rejoicing time with such things as in-porn advertising, product placement and… displacement.
